Getting Started

Nebulous is a Roblox solo bullet-hell boss rush by latent//state (published with permission from LostVolBytes). You fly a ship through block-shaped bosses, vacuum loot blocks, and invest into more than eighty upgrades on the way to 25 levels, 5 Guardians, and a final boss. This getting-started guide is the first-hour playbook: what to click, what to buy, and what to ignore until your kit can open cores.

The experience released on 2026-06-29. It supports mobile and controller as well as keyboard/mouse. Co-op, a level editor, and cosmetics are on the roadmap—today you play solo (maxPlayers = 1). After your first clear, permadeath unlocks with triple resources and one life. Until then, build a repeatable soft-mode engine.

Minute-zero checklist

  1. Launch the official place from Roblox.
  2. Join the Roblox Group for +15% resources (Group Rewards).
  3. Skim Controls if you are on touch or gamepad.
  4. Play the opening levels with one goal: survive long enough to fund rockets / usable items before Guardian 1 (~level 5).
  5. Bookmark the Guides Hub for Guardian and farm pages.

Promo codes are optional and often unavailable—see the Codes Hub for an honest status and How to Redeem if a drop appears.

The core loop

Every successful Nebulous session looks like this:

  1. Enter a level with a planned upgrade budget.
  2. Dodge and delete block bosses without greedy tunnels through bullets.
  3. Collect loot blocks deliberately; do not die vacuuming the last scrap.
  4. Open cores with rockets when the geometry demands it.
  5. Return to upgrades and buy power that shortens the next phase.
  6. Farm when a Guardian is next—do not ego-challenge underfunded.

If a skill-tree bullet hell helps you visualize upgrade order, the embedded gameplay below shows Nebulock-adjacent progression with the same “buy combat economy before vanity stats” lesson. Treat it as mechanical inspiration for Nebulous spending, not a 1:1 map of every node name.

Upgrade priority (do this)

Community-tested order for early Nebulous:

  1. Damage — bosses die before patterns complete their worst cycles.
  2. Clip size — fewer mid-swarm reloads.
  3. Reload — recovers fire uptime after a dump.
  4. Bounce — hits awkward blocks and packed formations.
  5. Rockets / usable items — core opens and phase finishes.

Delay these early

  • Ship size growth that makes you a bigger hitbox before you can delete threats
  • Raw health stacking that teaches bad positioning
  • Post-collection multipliers that only pay after you already clear safely

You will buy those later. Your first crisis is reaching Guardian 1 with tools, not with a chubby hull and a weak gun.

First Guardian gate (~level 5)

Guardian 1 is the tutorial wall for resource discipline. Before you queue it:

  • Own at least one reliable rocket / usable item.
  • Farm the preceding level once for a full resource top-off (How to Farm).
  • Confirm you can perform a level 5 rocket open + finish pattern in practice.

If you fail Guard 1, do not dump currency into health panic. Buy damage or rocket economy, farm, and return. Details for all five Guardians live on Beat Guardians.

Early level bookmarks

Memorize these spikes so they never surprise you:

  • Level 5 — Rocket open the core, then finish cleanly. If you lack rockets, farm and buy them.
  • Levels 7–8 — Rocket openers again; ammo discipline matters.
  • Level 10 — Control a wing first, then corner-lure the remainder.
  • Level 13 — Shield circle patterns; keep circular strafe stable and do not stop firing.

These notes repeat in sibling guides because they are the spine of the campaign.

Movement basics (soft tutorial)

  • Prefer orbits and strafe lanes over random thrashing.
  • Break line-of-sight with empty space; blocks telegraph denser than they first appear.
  • Collect loot on the exit path, not as a separate suicide mission.
  • On mobile, shrink your thumb travel; on controller, tune deadzones so micro-adjusts land.

When patterns densify, your reload and clip upgrades are what keep the screen honest. See Controls for platform-specific habits.

Resource math without a spreadsheet

You do not need perfect efficiency—just avoid anti-patterns:

  • Buying three tiny defensive nodes instead of one damage spike
  • Entering a Guardian at 60% rocket readiness
  • Ignoring Group +15% for “later”
  • Saving resources for cosmetics that are not even out yet

If a shop screen overwhelms you, ask one question: Does this help me open cores or delete phases faster? If no, scroll on.

Mid-article practice goal

Before you leave this page, complete one practice objective in-game:

  1. Clear up to the level 5 toolkit requirement.
  2. Purchase rockets / usable items.
  3. Farm once.
  4. Defeat Guardian 1 or record the exact phase that killed you.

That note becomes your homework for Rockets and Items and Beat Guardians.

After the first clear

Beating the final boss once is not the end—it is the unlock for permadeath. Read that guide before you flip the switch. Triple resources will accelerate everything, including mistakes. Your getting-started habits (upgrade order, farm gates, rocket opens) are what make permadeath fair instead of cruel.

Also skim Final Boss even during soft mode so the last fight is a rehearsal, not a cold encounter.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Treating Nebulous like an idle clicker—movement is the skill ceiling.
  • Hoarding rockets “for later” while cores stay closed.
  • Chasing every loot block through a bullet flower.
  • Skipping Group membership.
  • Believing you need scripts or private servers to progress (you do not).

Join the Group, buy the gun, unlock the rockets, and make Guardian 1 the first boss you planned for—not the first wall you bounced off.
